Overview

Why choose Bowen?
Bowen is different. It often works when nothing else will, although it is often the first choice of many. It is very client friendly and works with the body. Unless you are extremely lucky, it is not a ‘one shot’ treatment and it will be most successful if it is regularly received. The frequency depends on how your body reacts – it can be once a year or once a week.

What is Bowen?
The Bowen Technique is a remedial, hands-on complimentary therapy that is applied using very gentle rolling pressure on precise points of the body. There is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue and no force is used.

The experience of a treatment is gentle, subtle and relaxing. It is believed that Bowen Therapy prompts the body to reset, repair and rebalance itself and clients report deep relaxation, almost immediate pain relief, improvement of function and recovery of energy.

It works with the body to provide a balance between the ‘fight or flight’ system and the ‘rest and digest’ system.

Because of this gentle nature, Bowen can be considered for clients for whom other forms of therapy might be too aggressive, forceful or invasive. The tiniest of babies through to the frailest of adults have been successfully treated with Bowen.

Why it can help?
It is believed that the Bowen Technique prompts the body to reset, repair and balance itself.

Whilst it has clinically not been proven exactly why a Bowen move can have such a profound effect, it is fair to say that by acting on the fascia, it acts on the whole body. Very often you see Bowen advertised with water drops, as the effect is very like dropping a stone in a pond – the ripples extend as far as the constraints of the water.

Bowen tends to tone down the sympathetic and turns up the parasympathetic, leading to a deeply relaxed and proper functioning system.
